Churnet Valley Railway marks milestone in Leek expansion
The Churnet Valley railway has marked a milestone in its Leek extension.
On June 1st the Churnet Valley Railway moved one step closer as the railway brought a train through Birchall Tunnel on the approach to leek for the first time since 1970.
The train was to deliver rails for construction to continue on the railway lines expansion into Leek a project funded by the European Agricultural Regional Development Fund ‘EARDF’ along with donations and contributions from individuals and charitable trusts.
A spokesperson for the railway said
“WE ARE AMAZED at the continued generosity from our supporters. Only yesterday we received a cheque from the estate of the Late Reginald & Doreen Austin for £40,000.00 – as the saying goes every penny helps, and this cheque will most certainly go a long way in getting this project completed.
Anyone who wishes to donate can do so online via our supporting charity the North Staffordshire Railway Company - 1978 Ltd by visiting https://membership-form.nsrailway.co.uk/donations "
