Lady reunited with lost money thanks to help of officers and local community

A blind lady from Cheadle has been reunited with money that she’d lost following enquiries from police and help from the local community.

The lady had withdrawn some money from a cash machine on Ashbourne Road, Cheadle, back in May, but sadly dropped it while attempting to put it in her bag. Unfortunately, she didn’t realise the money was missing until she’d got home.

PCSO Adrian Waters from Staffordshire Moorland’s local policing team watched CCTV from the area and saw a man had picked up the envelope of money.

He shared the image of the man on Staffordshire Smart Alert asking for help to identify him.

Thanks to the efforts of the community, the man was identified and PCSO Waters and PC Johnson visited the him at his addressed and found he’d had kept the money safe in its envelope.

The officers took the money and gave it back to the lady.

Generous members of the local community also set up a fundraiser after learning about what happened to stop the woman from being out of pocket. Now we’ve tracked it down for her, she has decided to donate this money to a guide dog charity.

Adrian did some great work tracking down the money after watching CCTV and utilising social media to ask for the communities help.

“This is an excellent example of our officers and our communities working together and I want to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their efforts in helping us identify the man so we were able to reunite the lady with her money.”
