Museum and Pride celebrate OUR STORY – Pride of Place
Congleton Museum and Congleton Pride are calling for submissions from artists for a special exhibition in celebration of LGBT History Month, to be held at Congleton Museum and Congleton Town Hall in February 2024.
The "OUR STORY - Pride of Place" exhibition is an exploration of identity, belonging, and the myriad of experiences that define the journey of the LGBTQIA+ community. It is a chapter of the larger narrative, 'Our Story', a collaborative project between the Museum and Congleton Pride.
This unique exhibition will showcase the diverse and rich tapestry of the community’s stories, experiences and expressions. It will debut in Congleton with a two-week exhibition, then go on tour to other towns throughout Cheshire East and beyond.
Ronan Clayton, Trustee and Founder of Congleton Pride, said “We have been developing beyond our big annual event into a movement that supports the community all year round. It is a natural extension of this to ensure the stories of the community are told in an impactful way and embedded into our local history. We are delighted to be working with Congleton Museum on this exciting project.”
Local artists, especially those from the LGBTQIA+ community, are invited to submit their works for the exhibition. The museum is actively seeking exhibits that resonate with the theme and reflect the creativity, passion, and stories of the community.
Artworks, including those not selected for the physical exhibition, will be featured in a permanent online exhibition on the Museum's website. Furthermore, with the artist's consent, select pieces will be transformed into museum-quality art prints. These prints will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the artists, Congleton Museum, and Congleton Pride.
