Staffordshire’s swimming superstar Adam Peaty has won silver in the 100m breaststroke at the Olympic Games in Paris.

Already the current Olympic and world record holder, the Staffordshire swimmer held his nerve to clinch joint silver in a time of 59.05, only beaten to the gold by 2 hundredths of a second.

Adam—who started his swimming career at the Dove Valley Swimming Club in Uttoxeter—has had a phenomenal few years, and has recently managed to overcome injury and a loss of form.

Deputy Leader of Staffordshire County Council Philip White congratulated champion Adam on his latest success. He said: “Adam is truly a remarkable talent, and does Staffordshire proud every time he competes. His successes are testament to the hard work he puts in day in and day out, and I want to congratulate him wholeheartedly on a hard-fought win.

“This latest success shows just what calibre of show he can still compete at the top level. We’re really proud of him here in Staffordshire, and he is a wonderful role model for young people here.”
