STOKE AND VALE WIN CREWE LOSE

STOKE City got their new season underway with a 1-0 victory over Coventry City at the BET365 Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

City had the best of the play in the first half and had the best chance of the half when they hit the post, in the second half though Stoke managed to get the all important goal on 78 minutes when substitute Lewis Baker scored to give the Potters all three points. Attendance: 25,037.

PORT Vale started life in league two as they visited the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Valiants had more of the play in the first half and made the pressure pay as Ben Garrity tapped the ball home in the third minute of time added on to give Vale a 1-0 lead at the break.

Port Vale extended their lead on 69 minutes as last season's top scorer Garrity scored his second of the game giving Port Vale an opening day 0-2 victory.

CREWE Alexandra made the trip to Holker Street to start their 2024-25 season where they face Barrow.

Despite the Alex having the majority of the play it was Barrow who took the lead with a goal from Theo Vassell on 22 minutes which the home side held on to until the break to go in 1-0 up.

In the second half it was very much as the first and the Alex were not able to break down Barrow's stubborn defence resulting in Crewe suffering a 1-0 defeat.
