University Hospitals of North Midlands to return to Channel 5 in latest series of ‘999: Critical Con

University Hospitals of North Midlands is delighted to announce it is to be back on television screens in the fifth series of Channel 5’s critically acclaimed series 999: Critical Condition.

Documentary makers from Brinkworth Productions were welcomed to Royal Stoke University Hospital for filming of the latest series during 2022.

As with previous series, the gripping documentary provides extraordinary access to UHNM’s major trauma centre and emergency operating theatres and charts the vital interventions, actions and medical strategies that specialist teams experience while delivering immediate life-saving care.

The latest series reflects the relentless fast pace of the hospital’s daily workload both through the emergency department as well as surgery and shows the reality of critical care when providing care for a life threatening condition.

UHNM Director of Communications Lisa Thomson said letting the cameras in again was all about showing a wider audience what it takes to deliver life-saving time critical care in one of the country’s biggest and busiest major trauma centres.

She said: “We were delighted to welcome the film crews back in from Brinkworth Productions. We have been working with them for four years and 999: Critical Condition has given us the amazing opportunity to show people our exceptional staff, their hard work and dedication to providing the best care.

“This insight into how our teams make life-saving decisions under extreme pressure is a true picture of the life-threatening injuries and conditions our teams deal with day in, day out and also captures the moments of absolute pride in the excellent care that we give to our patients and their families.”

The eight part series will start on Wednesday 10 May at 9pm on Channel 5
